On a sand dune at White Sands National Monument
Ruminating at White Sands National Monument
It was so hot that day my arms blistered, even though I was covered with sun block. We arrived at high noon, and settled in to explore and wait for the full moon (the only time overnight stays are allowed). In this vast expanse of white sand and no people, it is impossible to become bored. After a full day of walking barefoot, my feet lost their callouses and became as soft as a newborn babies' skin.
