I knew that within six weeks of the date I took this photo I would wake to a 12 inch inscision across my lower abdomen. I wanted this photo to gauge the visual and mental impact the scar might have on me. Would I find myself to be vain and howl for my loss?

Much to my relief the answer is hell, no.
